Volume 4 of this very popular series
visits different farms around Ireland,
including one of the biggest
contractors using John Deere in the
country – John Dan O’Hare from
Annaclone near Banbridge, County Down.
John Dan runs a fleet of 32 tractors,
26 of which are John Deeres. What a
sight it is to see so many tractors
leaving the yard at one time to
service the needs of farms all over
the country, with implements behind
them as they head off to plough, sow
etc.
We also see the harvest stack machine
built around a John Deere 6220S,
cutting the lawn turf in Myroe near
Limavady, Co.Derry, in the fields
belonging to John Jameson from
Evergreen Lawns.
Moving south to Dublin, we visit the
Foley brothers’ farm in Kinsealy,
Malahide, and an outlying farm of 250
acres in Ashbourne, Co.Meath, where
they use two of the biggest John Deere
tractors in Ireland: an 8530 and an
8430. We see them plough with a 10
furrow Overum plough and cultivate
with a 4.6 metre disc cutting Simba
Xpress and also sowing spring barley
with a Simbahorsch 6 metre disc.
Heading North again we visit a farm in
Ballygowan in Co.Down where we see a
30 acre field prepared for sowing
maize. Then on to Poyntzpass in Co.
Armagh, where Gareth Cairns Contracts
prepare to spread slurry with a John
Deere 6920S and Slurrykat 12 metre
dribble bar, invented and designed by
Slunykat in Waringstown, Co.Armagh.
Back again to see John Dan O’Hare, we
watch his silage fleet leave the yard
on a lovely August morning to cut the
thousands of acres of silage and whole
crop; a sight to behold!
Packed with information, scenery and
Irish music.
