Since the first tractors appeared on farms across the world, farmers have been keen to maximise the efficiencies offered by mechanisation. Getting their machines to work more effectively increased output and profitability.
Tractor manufacturers were quick to realise that they needed to continually evolve the products they offered, either by making them cheaper, more powerful or a combination of the two.
By the 1950’s, very few horses remained on farms and tractors were the key to making farming more efficient. Globally, this took many forms – in Great Britain, the sub-30hp Ferguson TE-20 was ideal for the average farm, but large-acreage units needed something bigger, such as the Doe Dual Drive – two tractors joined together to produce around 100hp!
