In 1917 the Ford Motor Company sold its first tractor – what would become the Fordson Model F.
This marked the beginning of a tractor building legacy that would continue for 100 years, with a vast array of tractors produced bearing the Fordson, Ford and then New Holland name.
From 1991 the operation came under the control of Fiat and the New Holland name became prominent. It continues to do so today with tractors being built around the world for global markets.
This book tells the story of the conversions built using Fordson, Ford and New Holland tractors as a base unit for over a century. It includes crawler and four-wheel drive conversions plus a whole host of other specialist machines designed for agriculture and construction tasks. With over 1400 colour photographs, including many taken especially for this book, and a format that follows the original tractor that the conversions were based on, this volume tells the story of the well-known County, Roadless, Mui-Hill, Matbro, Northrop and Doe tractor conversions, as well as many less well known manufacturers, and does so in a new and unique way.
A century is a long time and this book gives a fascinating overview of the conversions built using Fordson, Ford and New Holland skid units during that time. It is also a fitting tribute to the famous names that no longer grace the sides of machinery today in the 21st century and ensures they are remembered for future generations.
