The Gläser brothers have been producing films about modern agricultural technology worldwide for more than ten years. In the first part of their new DVD series, “Farming in Focus” they have recorded the world’s largest forage harvesters at work in Germany in 2012. Maize cultivation has increased significantly in the last few years, largely due to the influence of current energy policies. Farmers and contractors have to harvest many thousands of hectares of maize in just a few weeks in August. The most powerful forage harvesters in the world, some with engines capable of producing more than 1000 horsepower have been in action in Germany for many years now.
This film shows the fascination these giant machines inspire and explains, in a way accessible to everyone, how the maize harvest takes place. The film-makers Jörn and Tammo Gläser have travelled to five separate states in Germany to make this film and visited both farmers and contractors. Watch the Claas Jaguar 980, Krone Big X 1100s, Fendt Katana 65 and John Deere 7950i and New Holland FR9090 harvesters in a wide variety of scenes in stressful working situations out in the fields. In a John Deere special, the film shows one of the biggest combine harvesters in the world on a demonstration tour on a big farm in Eastern Germany.
A narrator guides us, providing us with extensively researched background information throughout the whole film. A colour booklet is also included.
