DVDPAL
This DVD has been filmed around farms in Germany, Scotland and Ireland and we see some of the jobs that go on around the farm in the summertime.
One job that people love to view is harvesting grass with all the big machinery that is used for cutting, lifting and sometimes baling it and getting it to the farm yard for winter feed for the livestock. We also see them harvesting wheat, barley, onions and broad beans on this film.
One unusual story is about a field or organic grass in Scotland that had to be transported some fifty miles away to an organic farm with nine tractors and trailers. They needed more help and the contractor called in his brother’s Scania trucks with high body’s on them, one eight wheeler and one six wheeler to join in the fifty mile journey there and fifty back.
When the R.T.E. farming programme team “Ear to the Ground”, called to see John Dan O’Hare at work on the farm in Co Down they couldn’t believe what they saw, it was his grandson’s birthday and as he goes to the farm everyday John Dan decided to surprise him and his friends when he put some of his fleet out into the field beside the house, and a helicopter also arrived.
There were five mowers, three rowers, four shovels, five harvesters and a fleet of John Deere tractors and Kane trailers to lift the grass. It wasn’t long before a crowd had gathered around the field, and it was said the like of it would not be seen in a field anywhere in Europe or the World that day.
Some of the machinery used in the making of this film includes pea lifters, John Deere, Krone, New Holland, Massey, Claas, Volvo, JCB’s and many more different machines.
