Top of the Class – From SF to Lexion 780
The German firm Claas has a long history of making combine harvesters and this forthcoming DVD programme tells the story of the self-propelled combines built by this firm since the 1950s. By concentrating on the largest models produced in each range in most cases, this programme provides a fascinating look at the development of the green harvesters filmed during the last two years.
Starting with a preserved SF the DVD includes working examples of the Matador Giant, Dominator 106, Commandor 115CS, Lexion 480, Lexion 600, Tucano 480 and Lexion 770. These are also joined by a look at smaller machines, in particular four Lexion 400 and 500 Series machines working together in one field as used by a Lancashire contractor, instead of one big machine.
The programme also shows the preparations needed to get an SF ready for work, the first few days in the life of a brand new Lexion 770 including a long road trip and the changing over needed between harvesting barley and oilseed rape.
All in all this will be a unique programme of interest to all enthusiasts of these icons of the harvest field as well as those with more general interests.
