work of John Williams and son, Phoenix
Ironworks, Rhuddlan. After extensive
and very thorough research, Gwynfor
Williams as now been able to produce
this comprehensive history of the John
Williams, Phoenix Iron works and how it
developed into Corbett-Willimas, and
the company’s demise. It also charts
how a successor company continued
foundry work in Rhuddlan throughout the
twentieth century.
This is not only the history of the
Iron works but also the personalities
involved, the nature of Welsh
agriculture in the nineteenth century,
the effects of the changing labour
market and of emigration and new
markets across the World.
To tell this story the Author uses a
wealth of well researched material and
rare photographs and illustrations,
many from original company catalogues;
this book will appeal to both the
general reader and enthusiast.
