For over 65 years, the Watford factory of Scammell has been producing commercial vehicles ranging in diversity from that incredible three-wheeled articulated tractor unit to the country’s most popular home-produced rigid eight-wheeler. Whether you love them or hate them, the influence exerted by Scammell over the whole haulage scene means that you simply cannot ignore them.
The Supertrucks of Scammell is not a catalogue of their products: it is a tribute to the Company’s flagships, the top-of-the-range heavyweights from the first 100-tonner to the S24 and S26. Each is a descendant, yet entirely different in character from its predecessor, and all have taken part in carrying the mantle of British manufacturing prowess to the four quarters of the globe.
The photographs and words which follow recall some of the feats achieved by Scammell in the world of heavy haulage. They can only begin to reflect the skill and dedication of the people at Watford who endow their products with such a stout heart and majestic presence before they emerge through those factory gates.
